HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Rivals.com awarded Southern Miss junior bandit end Jamie Collins its Conference USA Player of the Week award after his performances in the No. 22 Golden Eagles' 48-28 road victory over C-USA rival East Carolina on Saturday.
It is the first time in his career to receive the honor from the website.
The McCall Creek, Miss., native returned an interception 97 yards for a touchdown and had six tackles and 1.5 sacks in the victory.
The 97 yard return was the longest in school history and third career touchdown for Collins. He returned an interception for a touchdown last season against ECU in Hattiesburg.
For the year, Collins has racked up 61 tackles to go along with 11.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He has also broken up seven passes. His 37 solo tackles are a team-best while his total tackles mark ranks just behind senior linebacker Ronnie Thornton for the team lead.
The No. 22 Golden Eagles (8-1, 4-1 C-USA) return to the field on Saturday, Nov. 12, to host C-USA East division rival UCF. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
