Football Set for Military Appreciation and Take a Kid the Game

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi football game against Florida Atlantic will serve as both Military Appreciation and Take a Kid to the Game Day. Toe meets leather between the Golden Eagles and Owls on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Carlisle-Faulkner Field.

With the help of our fans, tickets will be donated to the men and women of our armed forces as a token of our appreciation for their service to our country. Fans may help by purchasing tickets for $5 each that will be donated to local military bases. To donate to this cause, fans may visit the ticket page of In addition, fans may also call the Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) and mention that they would like to donate as well.

Prior to the game, the Southern Miss football team will run-out of the tunnel with the American Flag and flags representing all branches of the Armed Forces. In addition, soldiers from the Wounded Warrior Project will join the Golden Eagles as our honorary captains prior to the game.

The USM Army ROTC Detachment will have a special ceremony prior to kick-off in front of Southern Hall. At this time, the cadets will officially receive the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals that were awarded to Lt. Aull, a 1964 graduate of the University, who was awarded these medals posthumously for his brave actions during the Battle of Ia Drang Valley - the battle made famous in the book (and movie) "We Were Soldiers" by Lt. General Harold Moore.

In addition to Military Appreciation Day, the Southern Miss game against Florida Atlantic will also serve as Take a Kid to the Game Day. Any child age 12 and under will receive free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket to the game.
