Golden Eagles Continue Preparation for UAB on Wednesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - On the day Southern Miss announced its Saturday themes, the Golden Eagles worked through their Wednesday practice session inside the Joe P. Park Practice facility.

Head Coach Ellis Johnson discussed the team's play following the day with the assembled media and is looking for better execution out of his offensive unit.

"(Today) was ok - maybe there was a lack of focus," said Johnson. "Offensively, we didn't take care of the ball very well today. Everything else, I thought, was pretty good and looked like a typical Wednesday - better than Tuesday."

Johnson also fielded questions on the quarterback situation, and with true freshman quarterback Anthony Alford returning from injury, the first-year head coach indicated the Petal, Miss., product would get the first snap of the game.

"(Anthony) looks like he is healthy so he'll get the start," Johnson added. "He's not favoring that foot anymore and I think he'll be good to go."

Saturday's game is set for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff and will be broadcast on CSS (Ch. 25 SD and 400 HD on Comcast-Hattiesburg) with Mike Morgan, Chuck Oliver and Rachel Baribeau calling the action. It can also be heard on the IMG Sports Network with John Cox and Vic Purvis.

The office will also be open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday before moving to the Southwest Ticket Booth at the stadium at 3 p.m.
