Korey Robertson Comes Up Big for Golden Eagles in Win at Louisiana Tech
Roibertson leads the team in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches for the team this fall.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Korey Robertson continues to come up big for Southern Miss football.
Two dazzling plays - a 22-yard catch with some fancy footwork down the sideline into end zone to keep the Golden Eagles alive at Louisiana Tech at the end of regulation and then a 25-yard scoring leap over a Bulldog defender on the first play of the second overtime which proved to be the game winner - helps paint the portrait of a player with a rising Golden Eagle career.
The Greenwood, Miss., native and redshirt junior wide receiver leads the Golden Eagles this season in catches (37), yards receiving (515) and touchdown catches (7).
Robertson also holds two of the team’s five 100-yard receiving games this fall, collecting a 111 yards on seven receptions with a pair of scoring grabs in the season opener against Kentucky, before saving his best game of his career for last weekend in Ruston with career bests of nine catches and 127 yards.
Second-year Southern Miss coach Jay Hopson had nothing but praise for Robertson Monday during his weekly media conference.
"He's hard to bring down,” said Hopson. “Korey's a guy who had a tremendous spring and summer and he's been working hard for a year and you're seeing it pay off on Saturdays. He's put out a lot of sweat equity and was a guy I thought played tremendous Saturday. He made play after play. He's been doing that all year and did it against Kentucky. He's had an outstanding season."
Robertson will be looked to continue his stellar play this weekend when the Golden Eagles entertain UAB, who returns to football after a two-year hiatus. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
A win for the 5-2 Golden Eagles Saturday against the Blazers make them bowl eligible this season for the third consecutive year.
