Eagles Continue to Ready for Homecoming Foe North Texas
Oct. 23, 2013
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team continued preparations for its homecoming matchup with North Texas this weekend with practice Wednesday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
Game time is set at 6 p.m., this Saturday in Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium. The game will be carried on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network, including flagship station, Rock 104, 104.5 FM, in the Hattiesburg/Laurel area, as well as being televised on Fox College Sports (channel 724 on Comcast Cablevision in the Hattiesburg/Laurel area).
To get ready for Saturday's game, the Golden Eagles worked through a two and a half hour practice session, continuing to build on the things that they have already put in place this season while specifically concentrating on scoring zone and third-down situations.
First-year coach Todd Monken said after practice that his team faces a tough opponent this weekend, one that is solid on both sides of the ball.
"They play with great energy," said Monken. "Offensively, they are a physical team - downhill run it at your team with a senior quarterback as well as a lot of veteran guys. They just do a lot of things well and play great defense."
The contest marks the initial meeting between the two schools as Conference USA foes, with the Mean Green joining the league this season and the first time the two schools have met on the gridiron since the 2004 New Orleans Bowl, in which the Golden Eagles won 31-10.
Tickets remain available for the game on Saturday and can be purchased online at SouthernMissTickets.com, via telephone at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or in person weekdays from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
