Golden Eagles Return to Practice Field for Homecoming Prep Against Tulane

Oct. 20, 2009

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After enjoying its regular day off, the Southern Miss football team returned to the practice field Tuesday afternoon in full pads to get ready for its homecoming tilt with Tulane this weekend.

Second-year coach Golden Eagle Larry Fedora announced following practice that senior Michael McGee, who was injured last weekend against Memphis, would miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his left knee.

McGee had collected 14 tackles to go along with an interception and five pass break ups during his senior campaign. The Magee, Miss., native also collected the game-deciding blocked field goal in overtime during last season's R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl in which the Golden Eagles won 30-27.

"As much hard work and effort as he has put into the season it is a difficult situation, especially for him because he is a senior," Fedora said. "All those guy , Roshaad (Byrd)and Austin (Davis), they work hard to put themselves in a position to play then it's done (for the year).

"The other thing that it hurts is that Mike was doing a tremendous job on all our special teams so we have to find a replacement thing in all those areas."

Tickets still remain for the 6 p.m., game Saturday and can be purchased by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425), or going online at SouthernMiss.com as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, Monday-through-Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
