HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss hosts its 76th Homecoming Game during its celebration of "100 Years of Championships and Commencements" on Saturday when the Golden Eagles host Conference USA rival Marshall in a 6 p.m. kickoff at Roberts Stadium.
Prior to the game, the University has a week-long celebration of the Black and Gold under the theme, "Let the Good Times Soar." Claire Dulaney, a Saint Cloud, Fla., native, will reign over the festivities as the 2012 Homecoming Queen.
On Thursday, the Golden Eagle baseball team will hold the second game of the Southern Miss Breast Cancer Awareness World Series at "The Pete." First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and a pair of stars from last year's squad will go toe-to-toe as Andrew Pierce and Jake Drehoff are scheduled to face off on the bump.
Friday night kicks off with the first matchup between Southern Miss and Marshall on the weekend at the women's soccer complex. It will be Kid's Day as the Hattiesburg Zoo will be on site with some of their furry friends. The Alumni Association Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. while the student body, student-athletes, cheer squad and Seymour get campus ready during "Friday Night at the Foundation" at 7 p.m. A pep rally will follow immediately after at 9 p.m.
Homecoming kicks into full gear on Saturday beginning bright and early at 8 a.m. with the 17th annual Homecoming Eagle 5K run. The annual Homecoming parade begins at 10 a.m. in downtown Hattiesburg before the action all comes back to campus at 2 p.m. when Junior Eagle Funland opens its gates. There will also be a food drive on Pride Field to benefit the Edwards Street Fellowship Center.
The traditional Eagle Walk procession, with the Golden Eagle football team, staff, cheer squad, Dixie Darlings and the Pride of Mississippi, begins at 4 p.m.
Southern Miss has won 10 of its last 11 Homecoming games and is 56-19 all-time in the game. Saturday's game will mark the first time the Golden Eagles have hosted Marshall for Homecoming.
To commemorate 100 years of excellence, the Golden Eagles will wear throwback uniforms for the game to honor and embody the 1970 squad.
On Sunday, volleyball, soccer and baseball are all in action to wrap up a weekend of Golden Eagle Pride. Volleyball will take on UCF at 1 p.m. inside Reed Green Coliseum, the soccer Eagles will host Blake Nettles Day and their Senior Day with a 1 p.m. match with East Carolina, and the third game of the baseball world series begins at 2 p.m.
Saturday's game is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff and will be broadcast nationally on CBS College Sports (Ch. 393 HD and 735 SD on Comcast, Ch. 613 DirecTV and Ch. 152 on Dish) with Dave Ryan, Steve Beuerlein and Evan Washburn calling the action. It can also be heard on the IMG Sports Network with John Cox and Vic Purvis.
Tickets for the 2012 Southern Miss football season can be purchased either online via SouthernMissTickets.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Center from 8 a.m., until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The office will also be open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday before moving to the Southwest Ticket Booth at the stadium at 3 p.m.
