HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team used Wednesday afternoon's practice to continue to ready themselves for Conference USA rival, East Carolina, on the road this weekend.
Game time is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium from Greenville, N.C. The game can be seen on the Fox Sports Networks (including Fox Sports South, channel 47 in standard definition, channel 402 in high definition on Comcast in the Hattiesburg area) as well as be heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network including flagship station, WXRR-FM, Rock 104 (104.5), in the Hattiesburg/Laurel area.
The Golden Eagles return to a place where they have had much success in their history, winning 16 of 19 games that they have played in Greenville, including a 48-24 decision over the Pirates during the 2011 campaign.
After a brief misting rain and overcast skies which greeted the start of practice on Wednesday, the day transitioned two and a half hour later to sunshine and pleasant temperatures for first-year coach Todd Monken and the Golden Eagles. The change in the weather could parallel the differences from the team's practices from yesterday to today.
"Today (practice) was back to being really good," said Monken who was displeased with the team's effort following yesterday's workout. "We started practice off a little bit different with a couple of different challenge (drills) that got things going."
The Golden Eagles return to the practice fields on Thursday before traveling to North Carolina on Friday for its ECU contest as the team starts a string of playing three of the next four games on the road.
