HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss welcomes Marshall to town for their 2012 Homecoming game, and the Golden Eagles got back on the practice field Tuesday to prepare for Saturday's opponent.
"It was a good Tuesday," said coach Ellis Johnson. "Tuesday is always a little rough because we put in some new things into the game plan. It was a good, physical day."
The Golden Eagles worked out in full pads for over two hours at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility and Tuesday's post-practice conversation centered around the offense which racked up a season-high 31 points last weekend against one of Conference USA's stingiest defense in UCF.
In the Thundering Herd, Johnson said the team is preparing for a unit that does not show their hand until the last second.
"They are not extremely multiple, but they hide what they do extremely well," Johnson noted. "Pre-snap, they do a great job of moving late and have just enough time to change up. They run really well and are very capable of being destructive."
Southern Miss returns to the practice field again tomorrow where defense will be the discussion following the session.
Saturday's game is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff and will be broadcast on CBS College Sports (Ch. 393 HD and 735 SD on Comcast, Ch. 613 DirecTV and Ch. 152 on Dish) with Dave Ryan, Steve Beuerlein and Evan Washburn calling the action. It can also be heard on the IMG Sports Network with John Cox and Vic Purvis.
