Coach Jay Hopson’s squad travels to San Antonio for a second-straight year due to restructuring of the league after UAB reinstated football this fall.

Southern Miss looks for its first victory in three tries at the Alamodome, dropping a 12-10 decision there on a last-second field goal in 2014 and suffering a 55-32 setback last season.

The Golden Eagles (2-2, 0-1 C-USA) average 447.5 yards per contest over its four games to rank No. 42 nationally in total offense, while the defense has allowed 316.0 yards per tilt which ranks No. 25.

Under second-year coach Frank Wilson, a former Southern Miss assistant under Larry Fedora in 2008, UTSA holds the 21st-best offense at 482.0 yards a game, while the defense allows 207.0 total yards which is No. 2 nationally. The Roadrunners enter the meeting at 3-0 this season, having beaten Baylor, Southern and Texas State.

Offensively, senior running back Ito Smith leads the way for Southern Miss as he averages 108.8 rushing yards per game. Smith has 435 yards on the ground this season as he vies for his third-straight 1,000-yard rushing season. Earlier this season, he went over the 5,000-yard career total for all-purpose yards.

As for defense, senior Tarvarius Moore holds the top tackle spot for the Golden Eagles with 24, while fellow senior Jomez Applewhite and redshirt freshman Racheem Boothe rank second with 20.
