Practice Report Report: Oct. 4

Oct. 4, 2016

Venue: Joe P. Park Practice Facility
Format: Full Pads
Upcoming: Wednesday (3:10 p.m.)

Report: The Southern Miss football team returned to the practice fields on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for its road Conference USA contest this Saturday at UTSA. The Golden Eagles put in a 2 ½ hour workout which started at the Joe P. Practice Facility, but ended on the game field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The practice saw a few raindrops at the end of the session, but it did not affect the team’s prep work for the Roadrunners. The team looks to continue its winning ways in league play this weekend, after starting at 2-0 in C-USA play for the first time since 2004 with its 44-28 victory over Rice last Saturday.

Coach Jay Hopson
On practice today:
“Had a good practice. It’s a Tuesday practice, so we just have to get out there and get better tomorrow. Just have to keep pressing week to week.”

On moving forward after a great offensive performance:
“We just go to work. We don’t worry about all that. In football you don’t compare one week to the next. We know we have an outstanding football team we have to get ready for, so we just have to prepare.”

On the impact a performance like last week has:
“It better not have one. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad, just have to go back to work. That’s what you do after a win or a loss.”

On upcoming UTSA game:
“I have all the respect in the world for those guys over there and just know it is going to be a hard fought game.”

OL Devin Farrior, RJr.
On how it feels after a performance like the offense had against Rice:
“We are really satisfied with how we did Saturday. We kept Nick clean for the most part. From an offensive line standpoint: we’d like to run it more, but setting records, that’s great.”

On Nick [Mullens] having a perfect pocket:
“He texted us after the game and thanked us for all that we do. We know he appreciates us, because he’s always behind us, pushing us. Everyone clicked and we just did our job.”

On the balance of the offense:
“With Ito [Smith] running for 100 yards each game; I wanted to keep that up and keep it balanced but the team enjoyed the win.
