HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss football coach Larry Fedora announced Sunday that sophomore quarterback Austin Davis (Meridian, Miss.) will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury that he sustained against UAB last Thursday night.

The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter. Although originally thought to be an ankle-foot injury, Davis experienced pain in his mid-foot area after arriving back in Hattiesburg.

Davis was evaluated by team physicians on Friday and it was determined that he had a ligament tear of the mid-foot.

"I am extremely disappointed for Austin Davis," Fedora said. "He has done a tremendous job for us this season with his preparation and leadership. Martevious Young has done a great job of preparing himself for a situation like this. This staff and team have a tremendous amount of confidence in him."

He has started the first 18 games of his career and already ranks fifth on the Golden Eagle career charts in passing yards (4,293), touchdown passes (33) and 200-yard games (13). He has averaged 238.5 yards per game throwing in his career and has converted 369-of-610 attempts (60.5 percent) with just 10 interceptions.

This season, Davis has registered 1,165 passing yards on 108-of-156 passes with two interceptions and 10 touchdown passes.
