Football Gets Final Practice Day in For Thursday's Game at UAB

Sept. 29, 2009

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss used its third and final practice day in preparation for Conference USA foe UAB with a one hour, 30 minute practice here Tuesday afternoon at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.

Second-year coach Larry Fedora said following practice that the Golden Eagles will be without senior running back Damion Fletcher, junior receiver Johdrick Morris and sophomore receiver DeAndre Brown, who will not make the trip for the 7 p.m., contest, Thursday, against the Blazers at Legion Field in Birmingham.

The circumstances heading into this league game reminded Fedora about the Golden Eagles during last spring's practice.

"We went through the entire spring without DeAndre and Fletch, so all the guys who will be playing got reps all through spring and a lot during (fall) camp," Fedora said. "Quentin Pierce will step up and make plays like he did this past spring and we are looking to Tory (Harrison), along with V.J. Floyd and Tracey Lampley at tailback."

Even without the services of some of the Golden Eagle regulars, Fedora stressed that the Golden Eagles went through a solid practice heading into the game versus the Blazers.

"Today was awesome as it was our polish day," Fedora said. "It was our typical Thursday (practice) with our drives and special teams (work)."

The game will be televised on CBS College Sports (Comcast Digital Cable channel 735) as well as broadcast on the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network with affiliates throughout the state of Mississippi.
