HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Rainy afternoon weather forced the Southern Miss football team to change practice venues Tuesday as the Golden Eagles continue to get ready for its non-conference showdown with Boise State this Saturday.
Game time is set for 9:15 p.m. CT, from Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho, and will be televised on ESPNU. The game marks the final non-conference tilt for Southern Miss as the program finishes a three-game road swing in the process.
The Golden Eagles worked for almost 2 ½ hours Tuesday after moving the full pad workout to their game field inside Roberts Stadium. First-year coach Todd Monken said that practice continued to improve as the day went on as the squad had to adjust to the changes in the day's elements.
"It got better as it got going," said Monken. "I've always thought whenever the elements change, it really tests a player's mental toughness and his ability to not let it affect their performance. Whether it's snowing or raining or a little cold, it tests their ability to really focus. So, today was good."
The Golden Eagles face the Broncos (2-2) for the second-straight season, dropping a 40-14 decision to BSU in Hattiesburg in 2012. Southern Miss travels to Boise for the first time since the series began during the 2007 season. The Broncos won that initial game, 38-16.
The Broncos dropped their last game on the road at nationally ranked Fresno State in a 41-40 decision.
Southern Miss returns to practice Wednesday afternoon.
