HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team enjoyed its second-straight day of solid practice in preparation for this weekend's opponent, Arkansas.
The Golden Eagles went through a 2-hour, 30-minute practice at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility in full pads for the second consecutive day.
Southern Miss plays a Razorback squad that has started the season 2-0 with a pair of home victories over Louisiana-Lafayette and Samford and first-year coach Todd Monken reiterated what he is has been saying all week on how to try and stop a talented Arkansas offense that is averaging 390 yards in their two victories.
"You've got to be consistent in terms of no explosive plays, creating turnovers, making them kick field goals somehow and try to get off the field on third downs," said Monken. "Because otherwise, they'll wear you down."
The two teams meet for the first time in their respective football histories this weekend as this will be the first time since 2010 that the Golden Eagles have met a team from the Southeastern Conference.
Game time is set for 11:21 a.m., and can be heard on one of the affiliates of the Southern Miss IMG Network, including flagship station, Rock 104 (104.5 FM) in Hattiesburg/Laurel. The contest will also be televised on the SEC Network and can be seen on these stations in markets throughout the state of Mississippi including: WHLT-TV in Hattiesburg-Laurel, WXXV-TV in Biloxi-Gulfport, WCBI-TV in Columbus-Tupelo-West Point, WABG-TV (ABC) in Greenwood-Greenville, WJTV-TV in Jackson and EGBC (NBC) in Meridian.
The game will be the second of three-straight contests away from home with the Golden Eagles finishing the string, Sept. 28, at Boise State.
