Golden Eagle Football Returns to Practice Fields on Wednesday
The Golden Eagles entertain Southern Saturday at 6 p.m.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team returned to the practice fields Wednesday afternoon as they prepare for this Saturday’s contest against Southern at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The Golden Eagles and Jaguars will kick off at 6 p.m., as they meet for the first time in the sport of football.
Coach Jay Hopson’s troops went 2 and 1/2 hours at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility. The Golden Eagles opened the practice with several special team periods and then proceeded into individual drills before finishing the workout with team periods.
The Golden Eagles shoot for their fourth home victory over the last six games at The Rock as they play at home the first two weeks of the season for the second time in three years and only the third time since 2009.
Southern Miss holds a 5-0 record all-time against teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference and welcomes the first team from that league to The Rock since Alcorn State during the 2014 campaign. The Golden Eagles won that contest 26-20, over a squad that was then coached by Hopson.
Season tickets and flex plans, as well as single game and group tickets for the 2017 Golden Eagle home season are available and can be purchased by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or by visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, weekdays, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Discounts are available for Southern Miss faculty and staff, senior citizens, military personnel, and recent Southern Miss graduates.
