HATTIESBURG, Miss. - With the possibility of losing a practice day later in the week due to Tropical Storm Isaac, the Southern Miss football team will alter its practice schedule by going through a workout on Monday afternoon.
"We are going to practice tomorrow despite the fact that we have a lot of class conflicts," said first-year Golden Eagle coach Ellis Johnson. "We are just hopeful that we can stay ahead of the weather. If we practice tomorrow and the weather doesn't hit, we will just take a day later in the week as our NCAA mandated off day and still be ahead of the game. We are in good shape and I hope we don't get disrupted by it, but we have had already had two practices where we have worked on Nebraska."
Johnson also announced Sunday that he is closing practice at this time to both the media and fans.
Southern Miss started their game-week preparations with a two-hour play workout Sunday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to open the season at Nebraska this Saturday, Sept. 1. Game time is 2:30 p.m. CT, and can be seen on either ABC or ESPN 2 depending on the coverage area of the contest. The game can also be heard on one of the affiliates of the Southern Miss IMG College Network.
