HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg City Council issued a proclamation Tuesday, declaring Saturday, Aug. 31, as Beat Texas State Day in the Hub City.

The council, led by President Kim Bradley, declared this at its normal meeting and presented the proclamation to Southern Miss Director of Athletics Bill McGillis, along with the Golden Eagle cheerleaders, and mascot, Seymour. The council also stated that every Friday in Hattiesburg has been designated as Go GOLD Fridays, encouraging fans to show their support of Southern Miss by wearing gold.

The Golden Eagles open their 2013 season against the Bobcats that day with a 6 p.m., kickoff at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
