Football Begins Work Week with Two Practices
Southern Miss went back to work after going through their first intrasquad scrimmage of the fall on Saturday night. The team worked out in full pads at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility in the morning and then returned with a light 90-minute workout on the Roberts Stadium game field in the evening.
For second-year coach Todd Monken, he saw his team show a little bit of the effects of having a day off after going for nine-straight days in camp.
"The emphasis would have been for us to fight through (having the day off)," said Monken on his team returning to practice. "(We had a) scrimmage Saturday night, and we did not do anything yesterday and then (trying to have) a good practice this morning. The morning practice was okay. We will be better tonight (during the second practice)."
Junior transfer Brian Anderson has not shown any effects of a layoff as he has enjoyed a solid camp. Last week, the Golden Eagles tried an experimentation of moving him to the mike linebacker spot and he has done nothing to hurt himself at that spot.
"He is smart," said Monken. "He got here about half way through the summer, maybe a little later than that. He is smart, really likes football and is physical. That is three pretty good attributes. That's what he is about and he always seems to have a smile on his face. That is going to give you a chance."
The Golden Eagles return to action with an 8 a.m., single practice on Tuesday.
