HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team went through its third consecutive hot and humid morning practice here Sunday morning at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility to start its fall camp.
Adorned in shoulder pads and shorts, the Golden Eagles worked for two hours and 45 minutes in heat that reached 98 degrees on the grass fields.
Following practice, Southern Miss first-year coach Todd Monken said that there were some guys that did not make it through the entire practice due to the heat, but added that the ones that did showed excitement and worked hard during the workout.
"The guys that made it through, the energy and body language, was great - unbelievable," said Monken. "For the others, for whatever it was, whether it was what they did coming into camp or what they have been doing lately, in getting their rest at night, it wasn't good enough."
Monken said that the team looked to be better in their fourth practice, scheduled for Monday morning on campus as the squad continues preparations for the 2013 season opener at home against Texas State, Aug. 31.
