HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Department of Athletics announced Tuesday its game themes and promotions for its five Saturday home games for the 2013 football season at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
For the season opener against Texas State on Aug. 31, the department will celebrate and highlight the 10th anniversary of the 2003 Golden Eagle football team, which captured the Conference USA championship and participated in the Liberty Bowl. The Athletic Department will also host the 1st ever 4-H day at The Rock where members of the 4-H will receive special access to the field prior to the game and group tickets. The Pride of Mississippi will host its annual All South Band day for area high school bands with a special on field halftime performance. Following the 6 p.m. game all fans are asked to stay in their seats for a special fireworks show presented by the Seymour Sidekicks program.
The Golden Eagles return home Oct. 5, to take on C-USA newcomer FIU at The Rock in a 3 p.m., contest. The football program plans to hold its annual Breast Cancer Awareness game that day in conjunction with Family Weekend and Junior and Community College Day on the school's campus. All Junior College and Community College students, faculty, and staff are eligible to receive discounted tickets when they present their student ID. In addition, the Southern Miss cheerleaders will be holding their annual kid's clinic that day while the Boy Scouts will have their annual day with the Golden Eagles as well.
Southern Miss meets North Texas on Oct. 26, for the school's annual homecoming game with this game being designated as the annual BLACKOUT contest at The Rock. The Golden Eagles will also host Mississippi Youth Football Day at The Rock. Game time is set for 6 p.m., against the Mean Green.
The school's annual Military Appreciation game will take place Nov. 16 against Florida Atlantic in addition to the very successful Take a Kid to the Game promotion. During the game Southern Miss will honor and celebrate the branches of the military. Game time has been set for a 11:30 a.m., kickoff.
The Golden Eagles close out the home portion of the schedule with Senior Day on Nov. 23, when they entertain Middle Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. All football seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. The scheduled affair is also Faculty and Staff Day, as all USM employees will receive discounted tickets to the game. The University also plans to hold its annual Black and Gold recruitment day. The game will also have a distinct Mississippi theme as many dignitaries from around the Magnolia state will be invited to the game.
