HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss rising sophomore DeAndre Brown garnered a preseason third-team All-American nod by Phil Steele's College Football Publications, while a total of 11 Golden Eagles were tabbed as All-Conference USA performers.

Brown put together a stellar freshman campaign a year ago, finishing with a single-season school record for catches with 67 to go along with 1,117 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. His receiving yard total ranked 18th nationally and was first among all freshmen in the Football Bowl Subdivision, while his receiving yards per game (85.92) was tops among all freshmen and 23rd overall nationally. Brown was No. 2 among freshmen in receptions per game (5.15), which rated No. 52 overall.

Brown, who was a Freshman All-American a year ago by several publications, headlined the list of 11 Southern Miss players to earn a spot on one of the four C-USA preseason squads. Along with Brown on the first team were senior running back and the school's all-time leading rusher Damion Fletcher (Biloxi, Miss.) and senior offensive lineman Ryan Hebert (Gray, La.).

On the second team were junior defensive lineman Anthony Gray (Philadelphia, Miss.) and sophomore linebacker Korey Williams (New Orleans, La.). Third team featured junior tight end Jonathan Massey (Pascagoula, Miss.) and senior defensive back Eddie Hicks (Clarksdale, Miss.).

The fourth team featured incoming freshman running back Kendrick Hardy (Monticello, Miss.), along with junior defensive backs C.J. Bailey (Moss Point, Miss.) and Chico Hunter (Vicksburg, Miss.).
