HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss football coach Ellis Johnson announced Thursday that assistant coaches Rickey Bustle and Steve Buckley would be changing roles on the offensive side of the football this fall.
Bustle will move from his current role to running backs coach due to health-related issues, while Buckley changes his role to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.
"Rickey had been experiencing some health issues this spring and we wanted to decrease his workload a bit so we thought this was the best way to handle for both our staff as well as his welfare," said Johnson. "We have all the confidence in Steve to handle this role and Rickey will continue to have his say in how we will run our offense this fall."
The Golden Eagles returned to full staffing last week when they announced the hiring of Garret Chachere as tight ends/special teams coach. Chachere replaced Joe Judge who took a similar position with the New England Patriots.
Southern Miss opens the 2012 season Sept. 1, at Nebraska.
