HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Southern Miss defensive lineman Demar Dotson has signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dotson was signed after earning a spot last weekend following a rookie mini-camp tryout. Media reports out of Florida indicate that Dotson may be moved to the offensive line at the professional level.

The Alexandria, La., native played just one season for the Golden Eagles recording four tackles (three solos) in seven games played last fall.

Dotson (6-foot-9, 268 lbs.) made the transition to football for the first time, after playing two seasons with the Golden Eagle basketball team.

He appeared in 58 games for Southern Miss with 12 starts as part of Larry Eustachy's basketball team. Dotson converted 58.5 percent of his shots (76-of-130) as he averaged 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest over his career. In addition, Dotson added 10 blocks and 14 steals during his hoops career with the Golden Eagles.

Dotson transferred to Southern Miss from Southeastern Illinois Community College.
