HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss football coach Todd Monken announced the procedures for this Saturday's Black and Gold game set for 1 p.m., at Petal High School.
The game will be a controlled scrimmage and will include four quarters, simulating the action as close to game-type conditions as possible with normal scoring being counted. The Golden Eagles will play to contact on the football and the plays will be called dead at that point.
"With the number of injuries we currently have, which has created some depth problems at some positions, as well as having some more inexperienced players in certain positions, we felt this was the course of action we needed to take this year with our spring game," Monken said.
The game completes the Golden Eagles spring practice season which encompasses 15 workouts. Southern Miss practiced three times a week over a five-week period.
