HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Even as severe thunderstorms threatened the Hattiesburg area, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles got in their 10th practice of the spring season on Monday on Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

For new head coach Ellis Johnson, even the shortened practice was worth the time and energy following Saturday's scrimmage.

"We were very fortunate to get this one," Johnson noted. "We needed to correct a lot of things from the scrimmage and get some other things accomplished. I think we had a really good practice considering that."

Johnson came away from Saturday's practice with some critical words of his squad and instructed his staff to work on the issues they saw in the full-contact session.

"It was mostly cleanup from the scrimmage today," said Johnson. "In the individual periods, we made some corrections and had more 1-on-1 fundamental work against each other and some group things."

Southern Miss will look to return to the practice field for the final time this week on Wednesday, weather permitting, and will continue practicing up to their NCAA-mandated limit ahead of the April 14 Spring Game, a part of the Eagle Fest 2012 weekend - a celebration of the Black and Gold in Hattiesburg.
