March 5, 2013
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head football coach Todd Monken announced on Tuesday the addition of Dayne Brown, a 16-year coaching veteran, to his staff with the title of Director of High School Relations.
"Without a doubt, the addition of Dayne Brown to our coaching staff will pay dividends right away with his wealth of experience and connections across the country," said Monken. "Our staff is composed of hard working individuals whose number one goal is to be a positive influence on the young men we coach, and you won't find a more dedicated person to that end than Dayne."
Brown comes to Southern Miss following a two-year stint as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, Ky. With his extensive ties to the Florida area, Brown brought in numerous high-ranking recruiting classes for the NAIA Bears.
Prior to going back to the collegiate ranks, Brown spent two years as the head football coach and head weightlifting coach at Harmony High School in Florida where he was named the 2009 Florida Athletic Coaches Association 4A Coach of the Year and the 2009 Orange Belt Conference Weightlifting Coach of the Year after leading the team to a conference title. During his time at Harmony, the football team recorded their first ever wins against rival powers Osceola and Bishop Moore.
Brown's experience in collegiate football operations dates back to his time at Northwestern University, under coach Pat Fitzgerald, where he served during the 2007 season through the signing class of 2008. Under Brown's direction, Northwestern signed the most successful senior class in school history, a group that recorded 40 wins and appeared in five bowl games. With the Wildcats, Brown directed all recruiting and high school relations efforts while also coordinating all of the day-to-day recruiting operations to include official, unofficial and game day visits.
As the Associate Director of Football Operations, Brown also helped coordinate team travel and training camp schedules and the annual recruiting budget at Big 10 Northwestern.
Brown joined the Northwestern staff after stops at Lake Howell High (Winter Park, Fla./June '06-May '07) and St. Cloud High (St. Cloud, Fla./Aug. '05-May '06) where he served as the school's defensive coordinator. His longest high school stint was as Magoffin County High, near the University of Pikeville, where he served as the team's head coach from July 1999 to March 2005.
A 1996 graduate of Morehead State University, Brown received his bachelor's degree in social sciences and a master's in educational leadership at Union College.
