For those that follow Southern Miss, they are aware of this fact - the Golden Eagles have 18-straight winning seasons and there are only three other Football Bowl Subdivision programs that can claim a better current run that the school in Hattiesburg, Miss.
That good company includes Florida State (35), Florida (24) and Virginia Tech (19) for the number of current straight winning seasons.
The 18 consecutive winning campaigns are the longest streak in school history with the second best occurring from 1951 until 1967.
The stretch, which dates back to the 1994 campaign, has seen the Golden Eagles win 12 games once, nine games four times, eight games three times, seven games on seven different occasions and six games in three different seasons.
The 2011 Golden Eagles rode their success on the strength of winning eight consecutive games at one point during the ledger that included road wins at Virginia, Navy and East Carolina and home victories over SMU and UCF during that stretch.
That consistency helped the squad reach winning season status in eight games, the fewest games that it has taken them to do that since 1996 when that squad finished 8-3 and accomplished that feat in seven games. The eight-game winning streak during the year was the longest for the program since winning the final five games of the 2008 season and then continuing that by winning the first three games of 2009.
It also marked the most consecutive wins in one season since the 1958 squad went 9-0 and won the UPI College Division National Championship.
The 1981 teams, which finished 9-2-1, had a string of nine games in a row without a loss, which included a 13-13 tie on Oct. 10, at Alabama during that streak. Since 1958, the Golden Eagles had won seven consecutive games in both the 1988 and 1996 seasons.
