Southern Miss Head Coach Larry Fedora
I want to give Rick Stockstill and Middle Tennessee State credit. They did a heck of a job. They made more plays than we did. They made more stops than we did. You have to give them credit, that's a great football team.
It's definitely a bad taste in your mouth. We didn't do what we wanted to do. We didn't finish how we wanted to finish and send our seniors off in the win. We have to use this as motivation in the off season. We'll work hard and focus on all the things we didn't do tonight. We'll need to do the little things to get that taste out of your mouth so that we're ready to go next August or September, on that Thursday against South Carolina.
On MTSU QB Dwight Dasher:
You saw the game. Obviously, it was difficult stopping him. We knew going in that he was a heck of a player, and he showed that tonight. We sent him out a great player. He single handedly did it against us.
On Damion Fletcher:
All Golden Eagles are going to miss and what he's done for program the last four years. He's one of nine players to rush for 1,000 yards four years in a row. That's incredible because it doesn't happen very often. We're definitely going to miss him and each and every one of those seniors. I feel bad for the those seniors, since it was the last time for them putting on Black and Gold, and they have to leave with that taste in their mouth.
On going for two-point conversions
We'd worked on it all the time we had off. We decided we were going to run it, line up and hope to catch them in a situation where they didn't know what we were doing. But they were ready for it. Then we were down, so it was the situation dictating that we had to go for two.
Southern Miss Senior Running Back Damion Fletcher
It was a great feeling to hear the fans cheering for me in my last game. I just wish we came out with a win. That's definitely more important than individual recognition.
It was great to be up there in the company with those eight or nine guys. I worked really hard and it means a lot to me. It was great playing and being a Golden Eagle.
Southern Miss Junior Quarterback Martevious Young
On how he rates his performance
I say pretty low because I threw two interceptions. I had been playing pretty well controlling the ball, but it was the two turnovers that really cost us.
On adjustments by MTSU after Southern Miss went ahead 14-0
They disguised what they were doing more. They brought more pressure. They played physical the entire game.
Southern Miss Sophomore Linebacker Korey Williams
On Dwight Dasher
Coming into game, we knew he was a talented player. He got banged up came back in showed he's tough. He's always tough to stop.
Southern Miss Sophomore Wide Receiver DeAndre Brown
On returning to site of his leg injury last season
At first it was tough for me. My mom, my teammates and coaches told me to play my game and don't worry about getting hurt again. I was a little nervous, but once I had a catch and got into the game, I was fine.
Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Stockstill
"Thank You. First of all, I'd like to congratulate the University of Southern Mississippi -- they played a great game - and their fans. This was a great atmosphere. But this right here is the Middle Tennessee State University football team. I've never been part of a team that plays with such effort, intensity, passion and toughness. I'm proud of every single one on this team.
I've never been part of a team that plays harder than we do. Other teams can't match our intensity, enthusiasm and toughness and that was evident today. We fell behind 14-0 but we never quit. I thought this game was perfect ex of team playing hard with enthusiasm and toughness. We played harder and harder as we went on. We played smart. Dwight, Danny, Alex, and everyone, they all played well. This was a great team effort.
On Dwight Dasher returning to the game twice
Dwight was hurt a lot more than what he's letting on. He showed a lot of toughness and competiveness. Dwight now joins that elite club of 2,000 yards passing, 1,000 rushing. Not many people have done that. Vince Young at Texas, and Woody Danzler at Clemson; we had him when we were at Clemson. I thought Dwight was the perfect example of what our team stands for. That if you're hurt, if you can still walk, you're going to go out there on the next play.
Middle Tennessee Junior Quarterback Dwight Dasher (R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl MVP)
"Like I told coach... it wasn't an `injury.' I mean, unless I would have broken something, I wasn't coming out of the game."
Middle Tennessee Senior Garrett Andrews
On if the team peaked tonight
I think this team is capable of playing the way we are now all year long. If we could go back and play some teams we played before now, the results would be completely different. I definitely think we are peaking and we're not going to slow down.
Middle Tennessee Senior Linebacker Danny Carmichael
Has the Program been elevated by this win?
Definitely, this is our first bowl game. Getting to 10 wins, not many teams do that. I'd like to see the number after the bowl games are over. This is a great accomplishment for this team to get this win to sent me and our my teammates out. It's a testament to all of our hard work.
