Head Coach Larry Fedora
Opening Statement...
"It was a good win tonight. I liked the way the defense played the entire time. They really got after it. I hated that, offensively, we gave (Memphis) a touchdown there at the end. I would have loved to have had the shutout for the defense. Offensively, we didn't finish off enough drives in the red zone. Special teams were really good tonight. We played really well on special teams. We expect to and thought we would. We still haven't reached our potential as a football team. That's the exciting thing about this team. When we start hitting on all cylinders in all phase, it can be a special thing."

On clinching the Conference USA East Division crown...
"Well, it feels good to be playing for the conference championship because we haven't closed it out yet. It feels good to be playing for it. I'm really proud of these seniors and this group and what they've accomplished. I'm excited for them because they have a lot more ball in front of them."

On the fumbles and finish games...
"(Desmond) put it on the ground, I think, once right there before the half on the one-yard line. We had a chance. We put it on the ground in our own endzone. Those things are very disappointing because those things will get you beat in a tight ball game. We've got to do a better job of, when we have the game in hand, that we step on their throat and finish it off."

On responding after last week's loss at UAB...
"We put it to bed the next night and started focusing on Memphis and getting that taste out of our mouths. The only way you're going to get that taste out of your mouth was to step back out on that field and play Southern Miss style football. We did that."

On the defensive scoring...
"Yea, the defense likes to score points. That's good for us. Those guys, when they get the ball in their hands, expect to go the distance. If they get tackled, everybody gives them a hard time. They are looking for a way to get into the endzone."

On making a statement next weekend at Houston...
"You're playing for the conference championship and we haven't done that in a while. Even moreso, winning 10 games has been done twice here in the history of this school and there have been a lot of good football teams come through here. I'm proud of the seniors for what they've accomplished. This is there team and they have willed this team along. They've overcome injuries, adversity, overcoming the things that they have to get to this point and like I said, the best thing about it is that we have more games to play."

On the team's energy level...
"There's no doubt (that they hit the field with a chip on their shoulder). We played the way we're supposed to play. We played with energy. We played with passion. The week before, we didn't. It doesn't matter who you play, you play the game one way. And that's the way it's supposed to be played. If you don't, anybody can beat you. You have got to play with passion and energy. That's the only way you play this game."

On what quarterback Austin Davis has meant to the team...
"I don't know if I'll truly know what he's meant to this team until it's over with and I start reflecting on it because I don't want it to be over. I really don't want to think that way. He's our leader. He's the leader of this football team. Not only is he a great football player, but he's a great person. He's a tremendous ambassador for this university. He is what Southern Miss football is all about."

On the play of Tracey Lampley tonight...
"If you look at all the hidden yards that he gets for us, week in and week out, he lines up everywhere and can do anything. The guy is so versatile. That's the thing. Whatever we can think up, he can do. He can run routes like a wide out. He can catch the ball like a wide out. He can run the ball from the back position. He can run between the tackles. He can do it all. He can make you miss and he's not afraid to try to run over you. The guy is a special player. You name it. Whatever we asked him to do, he can do."

On how to stop Houston...
"I don't know (if anyone has come up with the right game plan to stop Houston.) Nobody else has come up with one. We're going to have to put their heads together. I know we're going to have to play great. They are a great football team. They are No. 8 in the country and didn't just get there. They are 12-0. We've got our work cut out for us. Our guys are going to have to play flawless football. We're going to have to take care of the football and play great on defense. They are the No. 1 offense in the country. That tells you right there (how good they are)."

Receiver Tracey Lampley
On his play today...
"Those guys made some good blocks for me on the punt returns and the offensive line did a good job the entire night. Coach Anderson did a good job of getting me the ball in space and letting me make some good plays for the team."

On clinching the C-USA East Division...
"It's just a milestone. We've been so close the past three years. We just couldn't get the job done. This year, coming from the offseason workouts with the different mindset we had to get to the conference championship, everyone bought in. The results paid off for us. We have an opportunity to go out and win a conference championship. We just have to take our time and stay focused."

Defensive lineman Cordarro Law
On clinching the division as a senior...
"It feels good for the seniors. We've been going at now for four years now and coming up short every year. It feels even better to win the East and play for the conference championship."

On next week's opponent, Houston...
"Case Keenum is up for the Heisman so you know he's going to come out riding high. We are just going to have to come out and come back and work hard this week in practice and play hard on Saturday."

Defensive back Deron Wilson
On the defensive mindset to score points...
"That's the mindset. Once we touch the ball, we want to get it in the endzone. Just catching an intercept and getting a turnover isn't good enough. We want to scoop and score or get an interception for a touchdown."

On his interception...
"Coach Brown (told us what to look for in that situation) and that's exactly what happened. Once again, he was right."

Safety Kendrick Presley
On what he saw during his 100-yard interception return...
"Well I just saw that I had to make the quarterback miss. After I made him miss, I saw a receiver was trying to run me down so I pointed to my other safety to pick him up for me so I could go on and score. It was a perfect call. I just read it and played my responsibility and he threw it right to me."

Quarterback Austin Davis On how gratifying it is to clinch the East... "We've said all along that's what we wanted to do: win the East and play for a championship. It's something we haven't been able to accomplish. I don't think there's a guy on this football team that's played for a conference championship. We had one goal in mind and never lost focus. We came out tonight and took care of business."

Head Coach Larry Porter
How do you think you played?...
"I'm very disappointed in the way we played. I thought throughout the preparation we had come prepared to play a much better game than we did. So I would like to take my hat off to Southern Miss for playing strong for four quarters. If you look at us throughout the course of this game, I think they dominated the line of scrimmage. I don't think we had much positive plays in the rushing game. We had to rely a lot on our passing game which was inconsistent. We can't afford to have three turnovers, especially a pick six. That's difficult to overcome in the game of football and is something we had avoided for most of the season. But it got us tonight. Defensively, we were disciplined at times and other times we gave up too many big plays that led to points. All in all, this is definitely disappointing in the way that I thought we'd play."

Did you expect a strong game from an opponent who was battling for a division title?...
"Yeah, coming in we expected a surge. This team is known for getting off to a fast start. I thought initially we withstood the surge and then defensively we got a little undisciplined. Like I said earlier, I think our offensive line just got dominated today."

About the fumble recovery for a touchdown?...
"We had them pinned down deep in their territory. We were fortunate we had enough guys in the right place and fell on the ball for a score."

You declined a delay penalty? Were you surprised they came about looking to score?...
"Well they were looking to score, and got a delay to have a better angle at the kick. By no means am I going to allow them to score. We're going to fight to the bitter end, and as a result, they decided to go for it and we responded."

You guys put together a nice drive before that pick six, was that just the pass that shouldn't have been thrown?...
"It was just negligent. It's demoralizing and a play like that really sucks the energy out of a team."

What do you think about next season?...
"We have a great group of young men coming back in this program. I think the off-season will be important to everybody. And with their leadership can thrust this team to where it can be. I think this team is built for success; we just need to add a few pieces here and there."

Tannar Rehrer, wide receiver
You got down pretty quick, how hard was it to initiate offensive against that team?...
"The rain made it hard to grip the ball and we had no production in the run game. We needed to get a little more motivated to make a play in the run game and it just didn't happen."

How was the feeling coming off the field?...
"It was sad, but I got to live my dream and I just want to thank everyone who helped me on my road back to the field."

Mitch Huelsing, defensive back
How disappointing was this loss?...
"It's very disappointing. You always want to send the seniors off with a win."

How difficult was this particular team?...
"They're a great team. Austin Davis is a great quarterback."

Talk about the fumble recovery?...
"More luck than anything, Chris Bertucci stripped it and I just had enough room to grab it. I'm glad we got some points on the board."

Andy Summerlin, Quarterback
How disappointing was this, coming here and losing like that?...
"It's always disappointing when you lose, they're a really good team, not to take anything away from them, but we didn't play up to the level that we can. It's frustrating."

What is what is it that they did particularly well on defensive?...
"Everything really, they're really aggressive. They throw a lot of stuff at you, the backs are fast and I think the D-line had a great game."
