UAB Postgame Quotes from Southern Miss Coach Jeff Bower
Nov. 3, 2007
Southern Miss Head Coach Jeff Bower
"I thought we played good in the first half. We would have liked to have had a couple of touchdowns or two, instead of the field goals, but I thought we played good in the first half. Then we got a little sloppy in the second half, and gave up the deep ball that wasn't a good play. On that, you have to stay with your man when the quarterback scrambles; you don't leave your man open. We played really well and took care of the football."
On the play of running back Antwain Easterling:
"He's come a long way. He wasn't ready to play until this week, plus V.J. Floyd was suspended for this game. We just made a decision, regardless of Floyd's status, that it was time for Antwain to play. He's really improved and will be a really good player. Hopefully we can get him a lot of touches the next few games."
On the job his team did after last week's loss:
"This was a good rebound for us. I thought this was a pretty good performance. I would have like to see us maintain our intensity a little bit better and make some plays in the second half. Overall it was a good game."
On holding UAB to four-of-15 on third-down conversions:
"We were a lot better on defense with third-downs. That has hurt us a good bit in the past and we did a good job at holding them in third downs tonight."
On quarterback Jeremy Young's ability to move out of the pocket:
"He made some plays for us coming out of the pocket. He got out there and made some good runs on that too."
On winning the team's third conference game on the road: "We have to start playing better at home."
On a wider margin of victory larger than previous meetings:
"It was good to come up and win like this, we've never had one like this. They are playing a lot of young kids and are doing a good job here. It's just a matter of time before UAB gets good."
On the offense's efficiency during the first half:
"We always want to come out and go fast. Again we got a couple of field goals, when you'd like to get the touchdowns."
On Justin Estes' three-for-three field goal performance:
"He has been a little inconsistent, but he wasn't tonight. He had three over forty yards, and he had a good night."
