BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Jeremy Young marked his return to the starting lineup by throwing a pair of touchdown passes to Ed Morgan to lead Southern Mississippi to a 37-7 victory over UAB on Saturday.

Young had missed three games and played only briefly in a fourth because of an ankle sprain, but came back strong, completing 7-of-16 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns and running for 58 yards.

Southern Miss (5-4, 4-2 Conference USA) blew the game open with a 27-point second quarter.

Damion Fletcher ran for 67 yards and one touchdown and Tory Harrison added 57 yards and a touchdown for Southern Miss. Justin Estes kicked field goals of 40, 43 and 40 yards for the Golden Eagles.

UAB's only score came on a 32 yard pass from Sam Hunt to Sylvester Mencer in the third quarter. The Blazers (2-7, 1-4) managed only 244 yards total offense, with 65 yards rushing.

The Golden Eagles drove 68 yards in 12 plays to score on an 8-yard pass from Young to Morgan early in the second quarter.

Two plays later, C.J. Bailey intercepted a Hunt pass at the UAB 48-yard line. Southern Miss needed only five plays to score on a 36-yard pass from Young to Morgan

A 4-yard touchdown run by Harrison and a pair of field goals by Estes gave Southern Miss a 30-0 lead at halftime.
