HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team will close out its 2012 slate this Monday, Dec. 31, when it hosts crosstown opponent William Carey. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.

The Black and Gold are currently on an 18-game home winning streak, the fifth-longest in the country. Southern Miss has also won its last 26 non-conference home games, the second longest streak in school history.

Southern Miss and William Carey will meet for just the seventh time in history and the first time since 2009. The Golden Eagles hold a 6-0 advantage over the Crusaders, with all games being played at Reed Green Coliseum. The teams have met the last two years in exhibition play, with Southern Miss taking a 78-53 victory last year.

Southern Miss comes into today's game with a 9-4 record. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 94-58 victory at Morehead State Friday night.

Junior guard Jerrold Brooks scored 18 points, while senior guard Rashard McGill scored a career-high 18 with four steals to lead the Golden Eagles. Junior guard Neil Watson recorded his second career double-double, scoring 14 points with a career-high 11 assists while also recording four rebounds and three steals. Junior forward Daveon Boardingham and freshman forward Norville Carey also had career-high's scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Senior guard Dwayne Davis is leading the team with 13.8 points while pulling down 5.0 rebounds. He is also sixth in Conference USA in free throw percentage, connecting on 84.4-pecent from the charity stripe. Brooks is second on the team with 10.5 points. Junior forward Michael Craig is adding 9.9 points and 5.8 rebounds. He is also connecting on 54.9-percent from the floor, which is fifth in the league while averaging 1.9 steals per game, tied for first in the conference. Junior forward Jonathan Mills is grabbing a team-high 6.5 boards a game.

Southern Miss is scoring 67.0 points per game but allowing just 59.2 which is second Conference USA. The Golden Eagles are shooting 45.8-percent from the floor and allowing its opponents to just 38.4-percent, which is third and first in the league, respectively. The Golden Eagles are connecting on 34.7-percent from three-point range, but allowing just 28.8% from the same distance, tops in C-USA. Southern Miss is also outrebounding its opponents, 33.9-to-29.8. The Golden Eagles are also leading the league in steals (10.3).

Head coach Donnie Tyndall is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. Tyndall is 9-4 (.692) as head coach of the Golden Eagles. He has compiled a 123-89 (.580) record in seven years as a head coach.

William Carey enters today's game with an 11-2 record. The Crusaders are ranked 10th in the NAIA national poll. WCU had a six-game win streak snapped Saturday night, falling 93-80 at West Alabama.

Junior guard Jeremiah Dunnings led William Carey with a game-high 28 points. Junior forward Guy Payne scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Senior forward Jamal Doss had 13 points, six rebounds and five blocks and junior guard Daron Bell had 11 points.

Kevin Nixon leads a group of four Crusaders in double-figures, scoring 16.6 points per game. Dunnings is averaging 16.0 points and 3.4 assists. Bell is scoring 16.6 points and Payne is adding 13.5 points. Doss is scoring 8.5 points while pulling down a team-high 7.3 rebounds.

As a team, William Carey is scoring 85.1 points per game while allowing 73.5. WCU is connecting on 48.0% from the field, while the opposition is connecting on 45.5%. From three-point distance, the Crusaders are connecting on 33.8%, but are allowing 37.7%. William Carey is also outrebounding its opponents, 38.3-to-33.2.

Head coach Steve Knight is in his 31st season at the helm of the William Carey men's basketball program. Knight is 548-426 (.563) as head coach of the Crusaders.
