HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss, coming off a three-game sweep at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic, will play its final non-conference home game when it hosts McNeese State, Sunday, December 23 at 2:00 p.m.
This will be the 17th meeting between the two schools. Southern Miss leads the series, 11-6. The Golden Eagles have won four of the last five meetings, and nine of the last 11. Last year, the Golden Eagles defeated the Cowboys, 58-41 in Hattiesburg.
The Golden Eagles are led by guard Jeremy Wise. The sophomore leads the team in scoring with 19.0 points per game. Right behind him is freshman R.L. Horton with 13.3, junior Courtney Beasley with 12.5 and sophomore Sai'Quon Stone at 9.8. Gjio Bain leads Southern Miss on the boards, pulling down 9.3 rebounds a game.
Southern Miss won all three of its games at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic, defeating New Orleans, 84-62, Louisiana Tech, 80-56, and Alcorn State, 86-61. Wise led the Golden Eagles with 22.7 points and 6.7 assists per game. Courtney Beasley added 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds.
McNeese State enters Sunday's game with a 5-5 record. The Cowboys are led by forward Jarvis Bradley. The senior currently leads the team with 12.9 points per game and 5.9 rebounds. Senior guard John Ford is averaging 10.0 points
McNeese State has lost its last two games, including a 69-65 loss against Lipscomb. Against LU, the Cowboys were led by Bradley and John Pichon with 12 points apiece. Rorey Lawrence added nine.
Following Sunday's game, Southern Miss will head to Southaven, Miss. to face SEC and in-state foe Ole Miss, Friday, December 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center.
