Southern Miss-Spring Hill Notes Get Acrobat Reader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team travels to Gulfport for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic, Dec. 22-23, at Gulfport High School.

The Golden Eagles will take on Spring Hill, Monday, Dec. 22. They close out the Classic the following night when they face Weber State. Both games are at 7:30 p.m. (CT).

Southern Miss and Spring Hill will face each other for the 64th time. The Eagles lead the series, 46-17, and have won the last 14 games. This will be the first ever neutral site meeting. Last year, Southern Miss defeated the Badgers, 73-54.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a 69-60 victory over McNeese State. Junior Jeremy Wise led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 21 points, as well as dishing out six assists. Wise set a Conference USA record by connecting on 19-of-19 free throws. The 19 free throws made are also a school record. R.L. Horton scored 15 points, while Courtney Beasley added 11. Andre Stephens contributed nine rebounds.

Wise is fifth in the conference with 19.3 points per game, while also bringing down 4.3 rebounds. Beasley is averaging 12.1 points and grabbing a team-high 6.1 rebounds, while Horton is adding 11.8 points.

The Golden Eagles are averaging 67.3 points per game, while allowing 62.1. Southern Miss is hitting 74.8-percent of their free throws, which is first in Conference USA, and grabbing 36.7 rebounds.

Spring Hill enters the game with a 5-3 record and is sporting a two-game winning streak. Last Thursday, the Badgers defeated Wesley College, 70-57.

Junior Marcus Coleman leads the team with 17.7 points. Senior guard Jeremy Price is second with 12.1, and freshman forward Chris Dees, Jr. is averaging 10.1 points. Junior forward Owen McNally leads Spring Hill with 9.8 rebounds per game.

As a team, Spring Hill is shooting 42.7-percent while holding its opponents to just 40.0-percent. The Badgers are winning by an average of 12.3 points, as they score 76.3 point while holding their opponents to 64.0.

Head Coach Robert Thompson is in his sixth season at the helm of the Spring Hill men's basketball program. He has compiled an 87-78 (.527) record during his tenure as head coach. He also holds a 130-140 (.481) overall record in 10 years.

Weber State comes into the game with a 5-5 record. Senior guard Kellen McCoy leads the Wildcats with 12.0 points. Junior center Steve Panos contributes 11.8 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds. Senior forward Daviin Davis adds 10.4 points.

Head Coach Randy Rahe is in his third season at the helm of the Weber State men's basketball program. He has compiled a 41-31 (.569) record during his tenure as head coach.

The games will be broadcast on WXRR-FM 104.5, with the pregame showing beginning at 7:00 p.m.
