Men's Basketball Closes Road Swing at Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team will close out a three-game road trip this Saturday, Dec. 8, when it travels to Ruston, La., to face Louisiana Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Golden Eagle Basketball Defeats Louisiana Tech, 78-62
Maurice Bolden scored 17 points and Jonathan Mills had 16 as Southern Miss defeated Louisiana Tech 78-62 in a non-conference game Saturday night.
Southern Miss comes into tonight's game with a 6-2 record after falling at eighth-ranked Arizona, 63-55, Tuesday night.
Senior guard Dwayne Davis is leading the team with 15.1 points while pulling down 4.7 rebounds. Craig is adding 9.9 points and 5.6 rebounds. Senior forward Jonathan Mills is scoring 9.5 points and grabbing a team-high 7.4 boards a game.
Southern Miss is scoring 63.6 points per game but allowing just 59.4, second in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles are shooting 45.0-percent from the floor and allowing its opponents to just 38.9-percent, which is also second in the league. The Golden Eagles are connecting on just 30.4-percent from three-point range, but allowing just 28.6% from the same distance, second in C-USA. Southern Miss is also outrebounding its opponents, 33.2-to-2960. The Golden Eagles are also leading the league in free throw shooting and are 16th in the country, connecting on 76.6% of their attempts from the charity stripe.
Head coach Donnie Tyndall is in his first season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. Tyndall is 6-2 (.750) as head coach of the Golden Eagles. He has compiled a 120-87 (.580) record in seven years as a head coach.
Louisiana Tech enters tonight's game with a 7-2 record. The Bulldogs are coming off an 89-82 loss at Northwestern State, snapping a seven-game winning streak.
Sophomore guards Raheem Appleby and Kenneth Smith both scored 17 points. Smith also had seven rebounds. Freshman guard Alex Hamilton scored 16 points and sophomore forward Michale Kyser grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

Kyser is pulling down a team-high 6.6 rebounds and is leading the league with 3.0 blocks. Sophomore guard Kenneth Smith leads the conference with 5.9 assists per game and is second with 2.9 steals.
As a team, the Bulldogs are scoring 74.8 points per game, which is second in the WAC, and allowing just 62.9. Louisiana Tech is connecting on 42.0% from the field, while the opposition is connecting on just 39.8%. From three-point distance, Louisiana Tech is connecting on 32.3%, but is allowing the same.
