Golden Eagles look for back-to-back victories

Freshman R.L. Horton is averaging 19 points over the last three games. - HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss (3-2) seeks to record back-to-back victories for the first time this year when they travel to South Alabama (5-3) for a 7:00 p.m. (CT) game at the Mitchell Center.
This will be the 33rd meeting between the two schools. USM leads the series, 19-13. In their last meeting in 2005, the Jaguars snapped an eight-game losing streak, defeating Southern Miss, 75-51 in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles have won the last four games in Mobile.
The Golden Eagles are led by guard Jeremy Wise. The sophomore leads the team in scoring with 19.8 points per game. Right behind him is freshman R.L. Horton with 13.0, and junior Courtney Beasley averages 10.8. Gjio Bain leads Southern Miss on the boards, pulling down 9.2 rebounds a game.
Southern Miss is coming off a 112-75 victory over Blue Mountain. Horton led the Golden Eagles with 21 points, while Wise dropped in 20. Brandon Cooks added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
South Alabama enters Wednesday's contest with a 5-3 record on the year. The Jaguars are led by guard Demetric Bennett. The senior currently leads the team with 18.9 points per game while grabbing 6.5 rebounds. DeAndre Coleman is leading the team with 7.1 boards.
USA is coming off a 66-62 victory over Houston Baptist. Against the Huskies, Brandon Davis led South Alabama with 15 points and eight boards. Daon Merritt scored 11 and Bennett added ten.
The Golden Eagles return home Saturday against Spring Hill. This will be the 63rd meeting between the two schools, with the Golden Eagles holding a 45-17 advantage. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. CT at Reed Green Coliseum.
