Dallas' Andre Jackson commits to Golden Eagles
Nov. 19, 2007
HATTISBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Men's Basketball Coach Larry Eustachy has announced the signing of Andre Jackson of Pinkston, Texas to a national letter of intent for the 2008-09 academic year.
Jackson, a 6-10, 275-pound power forward, averaged 12 points, 9.4 rebounds and four blocks per game last year for Coach Nick Smith at Pinkston High School, helping lead Pinkston to the Texas State playoffs. He received first team All-District honors as a junior, while being a McDonald's All-American nominee. He was also rated the No. 7 center in Texas by Rivals.com, and one of its Top 100 players in the state.
"Andre is a talented player," said Pinkston head coach Nick Smith. "He has a tremendous upside, and he can only get better. At 6-10, 275, he's still growing. When he gets to Southern Miss, and gets with the strength and conditioning coaches, they will really be able to mold his body. I believe he can be a really good player after a year's time, and eventually have a tremendous impact in (Conference USA)."
"I felt like I was at home when I went (Southern Miss)," said Jackson. "They are in a good conference, and I know they can better my chances of playing in the league (NBA) or overseas."
Jackson chose Southern Miss over North Texas, Florida Atlantic, Texas A&M and Wichita State.
