HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's basketball coach Larry Eustachy has announced today the signing of 6-foot-8 forward Maurice Bolden of Jackson, Miss., to a national letter of intent and grant-in-aid for the 2007-08 academic year.
Bolden, who played in last summer's MHSAA All-Star basketball game, currently is enjoying his senior campaign at Wingfield High School for coach Herman Sanders.
"He has been to a lot of our camps, so he knows us well and we know him well," said Eustachy. "He has a tremendous upside. For his size, he is extremely skilled. Maurice reminds me some of (former NBA standout and Meridian, Miss., product) Derrick McKey when he was in high school."
The Falcons finished 18-13 last season and Bolden was honored during this preseason as an "Others to Watch" as part of the Dandy Dozen, as selected by The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson. He was also selected as No. 18 of the top 30 players in the state this year by MagnoliaPreps.com.
Bolden is the first signee for the Golden Eagles for the 2007-08 season.
