HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball team will open the CBE Hall of Fame Classic this Wednesday, Nov. 13, when it travels to Chicago, Ill., to face former Conference USA foe DePaul. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be televised by Fox Sports 2.

Southern Miss and DePaul will meet for the 10th time and the first time since 2002. The Blue Demons hold a 5-4 advantage. The series is tied at two games apiece when played at DePaul. All nine meetings came when both teams were members of Conference USA.

The 2013-14 edition of the Southern Miss basketball team returns three starters and six letterwinners from last year's squad that went 27-10 and made it to the NIT Quarterfinals.

Heading the list of returnees is senior guard Neil Watson. Watson will run the point for the Eagles. He was named one of Conference USA's Preseason Players to Watch. He was third on the team with 9.8 points, while ranking fourth in Conference USA in assists (4.9), steals (1.8) and three-point field goal percentage (.442). He also ranked eighth in free throw percentage (.796).

Senior guard Jerrold Brooks is the team's leading returning scorer, averaging 10.9 points last year. Senior Michael Craig is the leading returning rebounder, averaging 5.1 boards while also adding 9.0 points. He is returning from an injured foot which caused him to miss the final 13 games last year. Senior Daveon Boardingham had 8.6 points and 4.0 rebounds last year. Sophomores Norville Carey and Jamie Chapman are also returning

Eight newcomers will don the black and gold for the first time this year, as head coach Donnie Tyndall has restocked this year's team with new faces, including three junior college transfers, two transfers and three freshmen. Included are junior college transfers Jeremiah Eason (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.,/College of Central Florida), Ude Ifeanyichukwu (Abuja, Nigeria/Laramie CC) and Deonte Houston (Bronx, N.Y./Olney Central CC). They will be joined by transfers Chip Armelin (Sulphur, La./Minnesota) and Aaron Brown (Hackensack, N.J./Temple), who sat out last season due to NCAA Transfer rules. Freshmen Matt Bingaya (Delaware, Ohio/Delaware Hayes HS) and Davon Hayes (Portsmouth, Va./Mont Clare Academy), who sat out last year as a non-qualifier, and true freshman Michael Reid (Queens, N.Y./Shabazz HS) also joins the team.

Head coach Donnie Tyndall enters his second season at the helm of the Southern Miss men's basketball program. He has compiled a 28-10 (.737) record at Southern Miss and is 142-95 (.599) record in eight years as a head coach.

DePaul comes into tonight's game with a 1-0 record. DePaul was picked to finish tenth in the Big East. It is coming off a 96-58 victory over Grambling State in its season-opener last Saturday. Senior forward Cleveland Melvin was named Second Team Preseason All-Big East by the conferences head coaches. He scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Freshman center Tommy Hamilton recorded his first career double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
