HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The Southern Miss men's basketball team gets its final preseason test when they entertain Loyola, New Orleans, in a 7 p.m. contest Monday night at Reed Green Coliseum.
The Golden Eagles used a balanced scoring attack in their previous game in an 81-52 exhibition victory over Lithuania Academy, Oct. 28. Freshman Sai'Quon Stone led Southern Miss with 17 points in the contest, while fellow freshman Jeremy Wise poured in 10 points.
Eight Southern Miss players of the 13 that saw action scored at least seven points in the contest and the Golden Eagles finished the game hitting 44.4 percent of their shots from the floor (28-of-63) and 46.2 percent from 3-point range (6-of-13). The Golden Eagles also took advantage of 25 points off of 30 Lithuania Academy turnovers.
"This is the deepest team that I have had top-to-bottom as far as talent level," third-year coach Larry Eustachy said. "These guys like to play."
This game is also considered an exhibition tilt for Loyola, who opened their season Saturday night at home with a 72-63 loss to Texas College. The Wolfpack also dropped a 78-59 decision, Oct. 31, to New Orleans.
Admission for the Loyola contest is $5. Southern Miss opens its regular season Saturday night versus Belhaven in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Green Coliseum.
Tickets for either game, as well as season tickets, can be purchased by going by the Southern Miss Athletic Ticket Office, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling 1-800-844-TICK or accessing the internet at SouthernMiss.com.
