Men's Basketball hosting annual tip-off party on Thursday, Sept. 28
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The first day of fall is a week away, and so too is the beginning of a new Southern Miss men's basketball season. The program will host its annual Hardwood Club tip-off party on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Brewsky's (3818 West 4th Street). The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6.
The event is free to the public and will serve as a meet-and-greet for fans of all ages with the student-athletes and coaches. Hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be provided, and there will be an autograph session prior to the event as well. Seymour and members of the spirit squad will also be in attendance.
"This is always an exciting event for us," head coach Doc Sadler said. "It serves as a nice kickoff to our upcoming season, and we welcome all our fans to attend."
The Golden Eagles have three newcomers this season as well as three others who redshirted during 2016-17. Part of the festivities include a video from the team's August trip to the Bahamas, which was made possible by the Hardwood Club's generous contributions and effort. The tribute will also feature some of the top offensive and defensive plays of the three-game stretch.
John Cox, the "Voice of the Golden Eagles" and radio broadcaster for men's basketball, will serve as the emcee for the event as he begins his 40th year at Southern Miss.
This past offseason, fourth-year head coach Doc Sadler also welcomed aboard coaching veteran Steve Shields as an assistant and longtime pro player Omar Thomas as the new director of basketball operations. Assistant coach and Southern Miss legend Clarence Weatherspoon also returns for his second year on staff.
The Hardwood Club is a basketball fan group that supports the Southern Miss program. For more information about the event or how to get involved with the club, contact the basketball office at (601) 266-6355.
