Raheem Watts signs with professional team in Greece
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Former Southern Miss guard/forward Raheem Watts will continue his basketball career with Gymnastikos S. Larissas Faros B.C. of the top-tier Greek Basket League.
Watts averaged 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in his two years at Southern Miss, starting 53 contests. Two of his six, double-figure scoring games last season came on the road against league opponents (17 at UTSA, 12 at LA Tech). Watts also put together four consecutive double-digit performances in C-USA action as a junior. The prolific dunker began his collegiate career with one-year stints at Jacksonville College (Texas) and Dodge City CC (Kansas).
"I'm really happy for him having this opportunity," head coach Doc Sadler said. "I know he will be very successful."
He is the second former Golden Eagle to sign with a pro team during the offseason, joining fellow 2017 graduate Quinton Campbell (Argentina). Last October, Chip Armelin, Maurice Bolden and Kourtlin Jackson were all taken in the NBA D-League Draft.
Other Americans on the Greek squad include Kevin Ware (Louisville/Georgia State), Daniel Dingle (Temple) and Willie Connor (Buffalo).
