HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's basketball program had the 25th biggest increase in attendance in all of Division I during the 2012-13 season.
The Golden Eagles averaged 4,802 fans per game last year, an increase of 1,052 from the previous year. The average attendance was the highest at Southern Miss in almost 20 years.
"Last year we had the least experienced team in all of college basketball," said Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall. "Yet, in large part because of a community that rallied behind our team, a fantastic faculty and staff and the best student body in college athletics, we managed to have one of the best seasons in school history. I am very proud of what we-and I do mean we-have accomplished here at Southern Miss. We want to continue to build on last season and hope the Green House will be packed and rocking against this year, starting on Friday, Nov. 8th against Jackson State."
Southern Miss is currently on its Bamahas Trip. It plays its second game of the trip tonight against the Bahamas All-Stars at 6 p.m. CT.
