HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Southern Miss men's basketball player Torye Pelham signed a professional contract with As Zolwer in Luxenbourg of the Diekirch League. The one-year contract runs through the 2012-13 season.
The Nashville, Tenn., native played three years (2009-12) with the Golden Eagles, where he finished with 350 points, 288 rebounds and 64 steals. Last year, Pelham helped Southern Miss to a 25-9 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, its first tournament appearance in 21 years and just the third in the school history.
"Coach (Jareem) Dowling reached out to a friend in the profession who liked what he saw of Torye and his ability," said Southern Miss head coach Donnie Tyndall. "From there, they were able to work out a contract. This is a great opportunity for Torye to continue his basketball career. More importantly, Torye finished his degree and graduated from Southern Miss this past summer."
Last year, As Zolwer finished in eighth place in the Diekirch League standings with a 12-12 record.
