HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Former Southern Miss guard Neil Watson has signed a professional contract with the Leicester Riders of the British Basketball League.
Watson averaged 10.8 points and 4.0 assists last year while helping the Golden Eagles to a 29-7 record, a Conference USA regular season title and their second straight berth in the NIT Quarterfinals. He set a school and C-USA record by connecting on 91.8-percent from the free throw line. He was also second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2), seventh in steals (1.6) and eighth in assists The Kansas City, Kan., native had 20 double-figure scoring games. He led the team in scoring 10 times and in assists 24 times.
For his career, Watson averaged 10.9 points and 4.5 assists. He became the 36th player in Southern Miss history to score 1,000 points, recording 1,157. He is the school's all-time leader in free throw percentage, connecting on 85.2-percent and is second in assists (473), third in three-pointers (164) and steals (160) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.395).
The Riders finished the 2013-14 season 23-10 and made the semifinals of the BBL Playoffs.
