HATTISBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Men's Basketball Coach Larry Eustachy has announced the signing of Torye Pelham to a national letter-of-intent for the 2009-10 academic year.
Pelham, a 6-6, 225-lb forward, spent the last two years at Chipola (Fla.) Junior College.
The Nashville, Tenn., native is rated a three-star player by Rivals.com, helped the Indians to a 32-2 record and a third-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament this spring. He averaged 9.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.4 blocks last season. He also earned First Team All-Panhandle Conference the last two years.
Pelham chose Southern Miss over Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.
He joins Joe Ayarza (Panama City, Panama) and Pedro Macias (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who signed in the fall, as current signees for the 2009-10 school year.
