HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's basketball coach Larry Eustachy announced today the signing of guard Kevin Branch of LaPlace, La., to national letter of intent for the 2007-08 academic year.
At 6-foot-4, 185 lbs., Branch played his senior season at Washington-Marion Magnet School in Lake Charles, La., for coach Mack Guillory where he was an All-Southwest performer by the Lake Charles American Press. Branch averaged 14.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. The team reached the Louisiana Class 4A championship game and his team was ranked third in the state by MaxPreps.com with a 26-3 mark.
"We are getting another athletic perimeter player in Kevin who can score, rebound the ball and is a tremendous defensive player," said Eustachy. "We are excited about getting a player of his quality this late (in the signing process)."
The three-star rated prospect by Rivals.com, Branch garnered Class 4A all-state honorable mention honors.
Prior to his year at Washington-Marion, Branch attended Reserve Christian where he was a member of the basketball team there.
Branch is the third signee for the Golden Eagles this spring. He joins 6-foot R.L. Horton from Jackson, Miss. (Lanier HS), 6-foot-8 Brandon Cooks from Thibodaux, La. (Thibodaux HS/Genesis One Christian School), who signed during the spring signing period, for the 2007-08 season. In the fall, the Golden Eagles signed 6-foot-8 Maurice Bolden from Jackson, Miss. (Wingfield HS), as well as adding 7-foot Gustavo Lino from Sao Paulo, Brazil (Universidade Anhmebi Morumbi), who enrolled during the spring semester for the 2007-08 season.
