HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss junior point guard Jeremy Wise will submit his name to the National Basketball Association for its June Draft. Wise, however, will not hire an agent, leaving open the possibility to return to Southern Miss next season.
"I would like to declare my intention to `test the waters' and submit my name for eligibility for the 2009 NBA Draft," said Wise. "I do not intend to hire an agent at this time and will retain my remaining eligibility and the right to play college basketball in my senior season. At this time, it is also my intention to return to the University of Southern Mississippi for the 2009-10 season."
The NBA Draft will take place June 25. Underclassmen have until June 15 to withdraw their name from the draft and retain their eligibility.
"I have met with Jeremy and told him how proud I am of him both academically and athletically in his three years at Southern Miss," said head coach Larry Eustachy. "He has my complete support in putting his name into the draft."
Wise led the Golden Eagles this season with 16.7 points and 4.69 assists, en route to placing fourth on the junior scoring list with 533 points. The third team All-Conference USA selection was also the first Golden Eagle to record 500 points in three straight seasons since Clarence Weatherspoon from 1989 to 1992.
