Dwayne Davis Named First Team All-Conference USA

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior guard Dwayne Davis has been named First Team All-Conference USA in a vote by the league's 12 coaches and various media, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Davis becomes only the second Golden Eagle to earn First Team honors, joining Gary Flowers in 2011.
Davis leads the Golden Eagles with 15.9 points, good for ninth in the league. He is also sixth in free throw percentage, connecting on 80.6-percent and seen in three-point field goal percentage at 43.4%.
The Philadelphia, Pa., native has scored in double-figures in 22 games and has led the team in scoring 10 times. He is also pulling down 4.4 rebounds per game.
Over the last eight games, Davis is averaging 23.6 points on 54.4-percent (62-of-114). He has also connected on 45.2-percent (19-of-42) from three and 83.6-percent (46-of-55) from the free throw line. Davis has scored at least 20 points in six of the eight games. Davis has scored 30 points the last two games, including 35 at Marshall last Wednesday. He is just the seventh player in Southern Miss history to score 30 points in consecutive games, and the first since 2002.
Davis is joined on the first team by Tulane forward Josh Davis, as well as Joe Jackson of Memphis, Maurice Kemp of East Carolina, UCF's Isaiah Sykes and TaShawn Thomas of Houston.
The second team consists of UCF's Keith Clanton, DeAndre Kane of Marshall, East Carolina's Miguel Paul, Rod Rucker of UAB and Ricky Tarrant of Tulane.
The third team consists of Memphis' Geron Johnson, D.J. Stephens and Adonis Thomas, UTEP's Julian Washburn and Joseph Young of Houston.
Southern Miss opens the 2013 Conference USA Tournament this Thursday, March 14, as the No. 2 seed. They will face the winner of No. 7 UAB and No. 10 SMU in the Quarterfinals at 12 p.m. CT in Tulsa, Okla.
